Promoting responsible consumption

Throughout its history, the Group has always embraced societal changes to incorporate them into its development and make them more accessible to the general public. In line with the second pillar of its CSR strategy, “an inspiring trendsetter”, it continues this tradition by devising committed retail concepts and forging partnerships that promote circularity and responsible sourcing. Its drive to promote new consumption habits makes it a true catalyst for change in the retail sector.

Circularity: head to the 7ème Ciel

In 2021, Printemps Haussmann unveiled 7ème Ciel, the world's largest physical space dedicated to second-hand Luxury and Designer goods in a department store. Spread across 1,300 m2 formerly closed to the public, this spectacular temple of vintage and circularity houses two complementary and fully renovated spaces:

  • "Second Printemps", which offers both a selection of the finest vintage luxury and designer items, as well as a buyback and authentication service for exclusive products;
  • The Coupole Binet, whose fashion and décor pop-up stores showcase designers and brands committed to an ethical approach like upcycling, art-cycling, repair, personalization and second-hand.

Second-hand gets a massive boost

To demonstrate its commitment to more sustainable fashion, the Printemps Group is expanding its “Second Printemps” offer of second-hand luxury and designer goods in its stores. The aim is to extend product life cycles and reduce waste. Through dedicated spaces and a buy-back service guaranteeing the authenticity of products, it offers a selection of carefully chosen luxury and designer pieces, providing a responsible alternative for consumers seeking to minimize their impact on the planet.

The “Hors Saison” concept, rolled out in several Printemps stores, gives a new lease on life to luxury and designer pieces from past Women's, Men's and Home collections. Carefully selected by our store teams, these models are available at exclusive prices and stand out for their rarity. Arranged by color palette and full of timeless pieces, the selection is renewed several times a month as sales progress.

For its part, Place des Tendances celebrates history and craftsmanship by giving new life to casual and luxury clothing from prestigious brands. Each item is rigorously authenticated to guarantee its exceptional quality and condition.

Last but not least, Made In Design offers its customers “Seconde Vie”, a constantly renewed selection of limited-stock items, making it possible to remarket products from exhibitions or customer returns. A tremendous bargain for design enthusiasts, the products are inspected by Made In Design teams, who determine their price based on their condition. Then they are all ready for you to take them home!

"Unis vers le beau responsable": nurturing a shared commitment

Created by Printemps in 2021, the "Unis vers le Beau Responsable" label federates a community of over 500 committed brands in all sectors (fashion, accessories, beauty, home, etc.). These brands are selected on the basis of demanding social and environmental criteria, defined in partnership with brands recognized for their commitment and independent experts.

Grouped into nine themes, the labelling criteria take into account the entire product life cycle, from sourcing the raw materials to end-of-life. These include the promotion of craftsmanship, the use of organic raw materials, eco-design of packaging, support for local communities and upcycling.

Easily recognizable thanks to the green logo stamped on products, the “Unis vers le Beau Responsable” label helps to make purchases more meaningful.

"Co-creating with brands that are committed to offering consumers an ever-richer range of responsible products is Printemps' project with its “Unis vers le Beau Responsable” label. This approach has been designed to catalyze eco-responsible ambitions and enable all players in the fashion, home decoration and art of living sectors to move forward together and share best practices."

Saison 1865: an own brand for quality and proximity

In 2022, Printemps unveiled its exclusive new brand: Saison 1865. While 1865 alludes to the founding date of the legendary department store, "Saison" is both a nod to the marvelous renewal that takes place every spring and to the calendar of fashion collections. Its credo: focusing on essentials while giving them a fashionable twist.

Infinitely varied, the label's ready-to-wear and accessories for women and men are also unconditionally committed to the environment: designed essentially in Europe from noble or recycled materials, the Saison 1865 wardrobe has the "Unis vers le Beau Responsable" label. Gots-certified cotton is used alongside Lyocell knits, while much of the small leather goods are made in France by talented partner craftsmen. Saison 1865 is the story of fashion on the move, at once timeless and quirky, inclusive and committed.

Microdonation for maximum solidarity

Consuming more responsibly also means thinking about those who struggle to meet their basic needs. Since 2017, the Group has taken part in the microdonation at the cash register initiative, which now features in all Printemps stores via four annual campaigns. In practice, customers have the option of adding €0.50 to their payment at checkout, which is then donated directly to a partner association.

Among the associations benefiting from the program since its launch are Fondation des Femmes, Rose Up, Le Rire Médecin, Gustave Roussy, La Voix De l'Enfant, Emmaüs Alternatives, Tissons la Solidarité. Thanks to rounding up at the cash register, more than 1 million euros have been donated to associations.
